Applications of CASE/MULTICASE
to Environmental Situations.
Department of Environmental and Occupational Health,
University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA, USA.
SAR methods such as CASE/MULTICASE
that can use non-congeneric data bases
are well suited for a number of
practical applications:
- To prioritize chemicals for further
testing, regulatory action or remediation
Examples:
- (a) Prioritization of ~ 800
chemicals in L.A. Basin for possible
health effects
- (b) Identification of potential xenoestrogens
among 40,000 chemicals in commerce and industry
- To develop toxicological profiles
Example: this will be illustrated with 7
chemicals of interest to the U.S. Air Force
- The design of chemicals with optimal
beneficial activity and minimal toxicity
Example: The design of dual action agents
(Herbicide + Fungicide) devoid of toxicity
