Subject: 11.04.01 8th Seminars of Advanced Studies on Molecular Design and Bioinformatics, Havana-Varadero, Cuba
The Seminars of Advanced Studies of Molecular Design and Bioinformatics (SEADIM) are a continuation of
the Iberoamerican Schools of Computational Chemistry and Molecular Design (Havana, 1996, 1998). They
have been held by the Laboratory of Computational and Theoretical Chemistry (LQCT) in the University
of Havana, Cuba, with the attendance of young researchers from Iberoamerican countries.

Treating the interaction between light and matter is of fundamental importance to physics, chemistry
and biology with many applications to life and materials sciences, and environmental research. Only
in recent years theoretical tools have been developed that allow to gain insight into excited state
processes with experimental accuracy that allow to expand the field from small molecules to molecular
systems at the nanometer scale. The advances in accuracy and scale will be also discussed in the
2011’s conference. In addition, intensive courses preceding the seminars will update the
attendants about details of these advances.

Intensive courses of SEADIM 8 will take place from July 10 to 12 in Havana. Scientific sessions will
take place between July 13 and 15, 2011 at the Hotel "Occidental Allegro Varadero", in the Varadero
beach resort, and consist in invited plenary lectures and posters.
