Subject: 08.01.16 ORNL Post-doc in Computational Biophysics, Biomolecular Simulations (ORNL08-30-CSD)
Synopsis: ORNL Post-doc in Computational Biophysics, Biomolecular Simulations (ORNL08-30-CSD) Date: 18-Jul-2008 JOB DESCRIPTION Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) invites applications for Postdoctoral Associate (with potential eligibility for future staff-level positions) to conduct research in the area of computational biochemistry/biophysics. ORNL (http://www.ornl.gov/) is a world renowned institution for pioneering research and is the home of National Center for Computational Sciences (NCCS; http://nccs.gov/). NCCS currently has one of the fastest supercomputers in the world, soon to become one of the first petaFLOP supercomputers. A combination of new algorithms and petaFLOP supercomputer is being used to address challenging problems in molecular biophysics by investigating various aspects of biomolecules, including their structure, folding, dynamics and functions. We are currently using biomolecular simulations to study a variety of enzyme molecules to understand the various factors that lead to enzyme rate-enhancement. A post-doctoral position is immediately available, to work on challenging problems in molecular biochemistry and biophysics. Responsibilities: The post-doctoral research associate will work with molecular biophysicists and computational biologists on biomolecular simulations of enzyme catalysis and focus on understanding the role of various factors, including intrinsic protein dynamics, in enzyme function. See http://www.vigyaancd.org/pratul/ for more information. Requirements and Desired skills: A Ph.D. in computational biology/ chemistry or related fields. Experience with classical MD/QM-MM codes for generation of free energy profiles is required. Some programming experience in Fortran/C/C++ and familiarity with biomolecular simulations code is also desired. Note: U.S. citizenship is not required for this position. TECHNICAL QUESTIONS Dr. Pratul K. Agarwal at agarwalpk+/-ornl.gov. Please use the code BIOSIM in the subject line of your e-mail.
