Subject: 08.03.31 ph.d or postdoc position in montreal, canada
This is an announcement for an opening of a graduate or of a postdoc position
in computational chemistry in the group of Prof. Radu Iftimie from
the chemistry department in University of Montreal, Canada.

The graduate position is opened at the MSc or the PhD level for canadian
students, and at the PhD level (stduents who already have or will soon have a
MSc degree) for non-canadian students. The postdoc position is opened to
students who graduated with a PhD diplomma no more than 4 years ago.

The openings are in computational/theoretical chemistry. We are interested
in investigating proton transfer reaction mechanisms in collaboration
with experimental groups (cryogenic amorphous ice spectrscopists and
IR/VIS pump-probe spectroscopists). The methodological as well as
the applied projects in our group revolve around these issues and utilize
ab initio molecular dynamics (Car-Parrinello) approaches.

Possible projects include : novel reaction coordinates able to describe
proton transfer processes (like weak acid dissociation) in bulk or interfacial
water; novel QM/MM approaches that allow one to study reactions in biological
environments; approaches for simulating excited-state proton transfer reactions
by means of Car-Parrinello molecular dynamics and compare with experimental
data from our colleagues.

Interested candidates should contact prof. Radu Iftimie directly at
radu.ion.iftimie(!)umontreal.ca
Candidates for the PhD position should send me a photocopy of their
grades obtained during BsC and MSc along with a complete CV. They should
specify whether they would be ready to join our group either in September
2008 or in January 2009. Postdoctoral candidates should also specify
when they could be available to join the group.

Remember: candidates for the graduate position must contact me
with a scanned copy of their BSc and MSc grades. Addmission at UofM
is very much dependent on those grades. Therefore, candidates without
this information will not be considered.
