From: jobs at ccl.net (do not send your application there!!!) To: jobs at ccl.net Date: Wed Apr 23 09:45:24 2008 Subject: 08.04.22 Research Associate in Computational Chemistry Schrodinger, a technology leader specializing in software solutions for
life science research and development, is searching for a highly qualified
person preferably with an MSc to fill a full time position in either our
downtown Portland, Oregon or our midtown Manhattan offices. The successful
candidate will use their knowledge of the detailed acid/base behavior
of complex organic molecules and their computer skills to extend and
improve the parameters used by Epik, a program designed to predict pKa
values and the overall protonation state of drug-like molecules.
This challenging job involves collecting pKa data and performing ab initio
quantum calculations, using Jaguar, to generate a solid picture of the
acid/base behavior for each of a large number of organic functional groups.
This person will in turn use this data to add to or refit the parameters
used in Epiks enhanced Hammett and Taft pKa prediction technology. While
the position involves working as part of a team of highly trained scientists,
the abilities to think critically and work independently are equally important.
Job Requirements:
Add and fit parameters used by Epik to accurately predict pKa
values for more classes of organic functional groups
Entry of chemical structures and data into databases
Processing chemical information using advanced scientific software
including Jaguar, LigPrep, MacroModel and Maestro
Critically assess the correctness of the information gathered or generated
Organize chemical information for long term use
Write Python scripts to automate processing and testing
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
Organic chemistry or biochemistry major, preferably at a MSc level
Solid understanding of organic chemistry as it relates to acid/base behavior
Ability to interpret and apply a wide range of organic chemistry nomenclature
Critical reasoning
Excellent organizational and communication skills
Ability to work independently yet function well as part of a team
An aptitude for using computers to solve scientific problems
Experience or familiarity with the properties of heterocyclic organic molecules
Desirable Skills:
Computer scripting languages such as bash and Python
Experience with Linux and Unix
Experience with Windows
Experience with molecular modeling

and adviser information to careers ~~ schrodinger.com.
Benefits include medical and dental coverage, 401(k), flexible spending
account, a generous vacation policy, and tuition reimbursement.
