Ochanomizu University, a National University Corporation in Japan,
is searching for a post-doctoral fellow working with the assistant professor
Dr. Hirotoshi Mori on the Program for Researchers to Promote Creative and
Independent Research supported by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports,
Science and Technology.

<Description>

1. Title: Program-Specific Research fellow

2. Number of available positions: 1

3. Term of Employment:

The first term is from the appointment day to March 31, 2009.
The employment contract is academic-year duration and could
be extended until March 31, 2012.

4. Annual Salary:

4,560,000 yen
(before tax and benefits, commuter expenses are included, no dismissal allowance)

5. Working style: Full time

6. Research area
With recent development of fragment molecular orbital (FMO) method, it is gradually being
possible to perform large-scale quantum chemical calculation of very large molecules like protein,
DNA, and so on. However, large-scale quantum chemical calculation containing heavy elements
(transition metals) is still difficult, since we have to treat two big problems, electron-electron
correlation and relativistic effects at the same time even in such a big system. Meanwhile, in my
laboratory, weve ever focused on relatively small molecules and developed a relativistic quantum
chemical theory named model core potential (MCP) to overcome these two problems in molecules
containing heavy elements. With these backgrounds, now, were trying to expand MCP and
develop large-scale relativistic quantum chemistry.
The research project for the applicants of this opening position is large-scale relativistic
quantum chemical calculation of bio-molecules containing transition metals. The post-doctoral
fellow of this opening position will be expected to engage in the expansive development of
MCP/FMO method and its application based on ab initio quantum chemical program packages,
GAMESS and/or ABINIT-MP. The post-doctoral fellow is also expected to develop their ability
and experience to promote to independent researchers after finishing this project. From this point
of view, Ill flexibly accept the post-doctoral fellows research proposal if it is related with my
MCP project (In that case, please make sure of including your research plan in the document c
listed below).

7. Eligible applicants:

Applicants should have (or expect to hold by March 31, 2009) a Ph.D. Experience of computer
programming is preferred but all highly motivated candidates with a strong background in
theoretical chemistry or computational chemistry are encouraged to apply. International
applications are welcome.

8. Documents for application:

a. Curriculum vitae.
b. Two recommendation letters or name and address of two persons for references.
c. Outline of previous research and a short sketch of your goals and ambitions (up to 3 pages)
