Subject: 09.10.30 Postdoctoral and doctoral positions (Computational Chemistry and Biochemistry Group - Univ. Goettingen)
The Free Floater junior research group 'Computational Chemistry and
Biochemistry' at the University of Goettingen invites applications for

Postdoctoral position (full-time)
Doctoral position (half-time)

Employment: The salary is defined according to the German E13 TV-L scale.
The positions will be initially available for a period of two years,
but can be extended to three years after positive evaluation.

Projects: The CCB group has a strong research focus on the computational
study of chemical reactivity/affinity in biomolecular systems.
We are interested in the development of new computational models which
can help to better understand phenomena like enzymatic catalysis and
protein folding. The successful doctoral applicant will be involved in
the study of weak interactions in model biomolecules, through the use
of state-of-the-art quantum chemical methods. The results will be
combined with experiments of current interest, and used in the further
development of forcefields for molecular modeling. The postdoctoral
project will focus on the development of QM/MM Monte Carlo approaches,
with applications in docking experiments and enzymatic activity.

Requirements: Doctoral applicants should have completed their Masters
or Diploma degree preferably in Chemistry or Physics. Previous
experience in the field is not necessary, but will be considered in
the evaluation. Postdoctoral applicants should have completed a PhD
in Theoretical/Computational Chemistry or any closely related field.
Experience with molecular modeling tools and/or programming (in
particular C and scripting languages) will strongly favour the
application.

Organization: The 'Computational Chemistry and Biochemistry' group
is a Free Floater Research Group recently established at the
Georg-August-University Goettingen in the scope of the German Excellence
Initiative. The University ranks among the top research Institutions
in the country, offering great career opportunities for young researchers.

Application details: Candidates are requested to send a motivation
letter, together with two references (name and contact address) and a
complete CV to Jun.-Prof. Ricardo Mata (rmata[at]gwdg.de).
The application deadline is the 30th of November 2009. The University
of Goettingen seeks to increase the participation of women in areas in
which they are currently underrepresented and therefore explicitly
encourages applications from female candidates. International
applications are also welcome. Disabled persons with equivalent
aptitude will be favoured.
