Subject: 09.11.13 Postdoc, Theoretical/Molecular Simulation, UWO, London, Canada
Positions for graduate students and one postdoctoral fellow are available immediately in the theoretical/computational physical chemistry group of Dr. S. Constas in the Department of Chemistry, The University of Western Ontario, London, Ont., Canada. (www.uwo.ca/chem) The research projects focus on the development and applications of methods for studying chemical reactions in solution modeled at the molecular level. The methods deal with rare event dynamics, questions concerning reaction coordinates and new methodologies to circumvent the use of reaction coordinate in the study of reaction mechanisms. A relevant article is: ``Detecting reaction pathways and computing reaction rates in condensed phase'' in THEORETICAL CHEMISTRY ACCOUNTS Volume: 116 Issue: 1-3 Pages: 373-382, 2006. An example of reaction that will be studied is proton transfer in biological systems. The reactions are investigated using methods of Molecular Dynamics, Monte Carlo and methods of mixed quantum-classical dynamics. Another application that the methods of activated processes and rare event dynamics will be applied is in the study of the crystallization processes in solution. The requirements for the postdoctoral candidates are: Very good knowledge of UNIX or LINUX and programming languages. Extensive experience with Molecular Dynamics and Monte Carlo methods. Experience with the use of high performance computing facilities The initial contract for a postdoctoral fellow is for one year with the possibility of extension in the second year. Information about the graduate studies in our Department can be found at: www.uwo.ca/chem/prosgrad/welcome.htm
Interested postdoctoral applicants should send a curriculum vitae, list of recent and most important publications in the area of theoretical/ computational chemistry or chemical physics or statistical physics and names and contact information of two referees to: Dr. Styliani Constas, Associate Professor Department of Chemistry, The University of Western Ontario, London N6A 5B7, Ontario, Canada Phone : (519) 661-2111 ext. 86338 Fax : (519) 661-3022 E-mail : styliani.constas:-:gmail.comNOTE THAT E-MAIL ADDRESSES HAVE BEEN MODIFIED!!!
