From: jobs at ccl.net (do not send your application there!!!) To: jobs at ccl.net Date: Fri Nov 20 04:34:34 2009 Subject: 09.11.19 Computational Chemist, LeadPharma, The Netherlands The computational chemistry group at Lead Pharma (The Netherlands) is seeking a scientist to apply the methods of computational chemistry to the discovery of new drugs. These methods may include pharmacophore generation and analysis, virtual screening, ADME-Tox modelling, QSAR, statistics and general data analysis. The candidate should have practical experience with several of these methodologies, or deeper expertise in two or more of these areas. The scientist may develop tools or methodology for these calculations or for the analysis and interpretation of their results. Some experience with programming and/or scripting languages is essential. Using these techniques, the scientist will work closely with medicinal chemists and project teams to design compounds with improved potency, selectivity, functional behavior and/or ADME properties. Some knowledge of medicinal chemistry is an advantage. Knowledge of statistics and chemoinformatics are also important. The candidate must have excellent communication skills, and must work effectively with scientists from other disciplines. This project will imply strong interactions with chemists as well as with biologists. The position is currently available; employment agreement as well as compensation will meet European high standards. Essential Qualifications and Experience: * Ph.D.or Msc in computational chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry or biochemistry or a related field * 2 years of relevant experience in computationally-driven lead discovery and optimization * Experience in at least 3 of the following molecular modeling areas: ligand-based drug design, virtual ligand screening, computationally-driven lead optimization, chemoinformatics * Experience with commercial modeling tools * Experience with Linux hardware platforms * Experience with programming and/or scripting languages such as Perl and Python * Ability to work independently, while maintaining good communications across a team of developers * Strong verbal and written communication skills to present the scientific results to project teams. The successful candidate will become part of a multidisciplinary drug discovery team working on both collaborative projects with pharmaceutical/biotechnology partners and in-house efforts to improve and apply drug discovery and development computational methods.
