Postdoc Position and PhD Position in Computational Biophysics /
Computational Biology

Biology Department, University Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany

PhD and Postdoc positions are offered by the Computational Biology Group at
the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. Work of the group is focused on the
prediction of structure, function and (nano)dynamics of membranes and
proteins.

Projects involves the study of protein-lipid interactions on the atomic
scale, using the method of molecular dynamics simulations. Of specific
interest are the action of anesthetics, pore formation in membranes by
external electric fields (e.g. 'electroporation'), and phase transitions
in biological membranes and their role in the function of membrane
proteins. Addressed questions cover for example: How do peptides and
proteins interact with the membrane? Can we predict fusion, budding,
fission properties? How is transport along and through membranes
achieved?

Candidates for the Postdoc position must hold a doctoral degree in
physics or in chemistry and should have a strong background in membrane
biophysics. PhD applicants should have successfully completed their
Masters or Diploma degree in physics or theoretical (bio)chemistry, be
strongly motivated and team-oriented. Experience in 'Molecular Modeling'
or structural biology is of advantage. PhD fellowships are limited to
three years. The Postdoc position may be extended for up to five years.

Interested candidates should send their application letter including a CV
(with the names of one or two people who would be willing to send a
letter of recommendation) by email (preferably one pdf file) to:
