Gilead Sciences, Inc. is a research-based biopharmaceutical company that
discovers, develops and commercializes innovative medicines in areas of
unmet need. With each new discovery and experimental drug candidate, we seek
to improve the care of patients suffering from life-threatening diseases.

Gileads primary areas of focus include HIV/AIDS, liver disease and serious
cardiovascular, cardiopoulmonary and respiratory conditions.

Our portfolio of 12 marketed products includes a number of category firsts
and market leaders, including Atripla (efavirenz 600 mg/emtricitabine 200
mg/ tenofovir disoproxil fumarate 300 mg) - the first single-tablet regimen
for HIV infection. Gilead has recently made significant investments into the
Cardio-Pulmonary and Respiratory disease and markets Letairis for Pulmonary
Arterial Hypertension and Ranexa for Chronic Angina. Gileads pipeline in
these areas includes products for patients suffering from Cystic Fibrosis,
resistant hypertension as well as a variety of other conditions.

Specific Responsibilities:
As a member of the modeling group you will work closely within the
inter-disciplinary project teams deployed in multiple therapeutic areas. In
this critical role you will be responsible for proactively delivering
structural and computational expertise to influence our efforts in lead
identification and lead optimization.

Experience in a broad variety of computational techniques is desirable,
particularly molecular docking, pharmacophore development, library design
and analysis, QSAR, and protein-ligand simulation. The ability to analyze
chemical structures in relation to biological activity in order to guide
novel compound design or help evolve the SAR, both independently and in
collaboration with medicinal chemists, is essential.
Solid knowledge of medicinal chemistry principles, including DMPK, as well
as the understanding of IP and its analysis is expected. Excellent
communication skills along with the ability to function as an effective
member on multiple project teams are mandatory.

Essential Duties and Job Functions:

discovery of drugs, the development of drug candidates or the research
support of marketed drugs. Investigates the feasibility of applying advanced
principles and techniques of related scientific specialty to potential
inventions, products and problems. Recommends the development of economical,
state-of-the art techniques to isolate characterize, purify and mass-produce
substances, reagents, assays and tools in an effort to discover therapeutic
bioproducts to make such substances available as tools for other research
projects. Plans, designs, implements and analyzes laboratory experimentation
to advance scientific knowledge of drug substances or techniques to identify
such substances. Provides direction to research associates or members of
project teams in the initiation and execution of laboratory experimentation,
considering economic and safety factors. Typically supervises one to two
employees including selection, performance management and career
development. Works on complex problems where analysis of situations or data
requires evaluation of intangible variables, requiring regular use of
ingenuity and creativity. Makes contributions to scientific literature and
conferences through publication and presentation of research results.
Participates in development of patent applications. Acts as a resource and
provides work direction for other research personnel.

Knowledge, Experience and Skills:
Typically requires a PhD in an appropriate scientific discipline and 5 years

techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Demonstrates
ability to recognize anomalous and inconsistent results and interpret
experimental outcomes. Maintains in-depth knowledge of state-of-the art
principles and theories, applying such knowledge to the research direction
that supports Company interests. Demonstrates technical proficiency,
scientific creativity, collaboration with others and independent thought in
