This DOE funded project seeks to explore the combustion and pyrolysis pathways of the molecular constituents of asphaltenes contained in oil shale. The project involves the use of quantum chemistry to explore reaction pathways and statistical rate theory to determine rate constants for those pathways. Candidates with a strong background in quantum chemistry and/or statistical rate theory are encouraged to apply. The successful applicant will be a highly motivated and productive scientist with excellent writing and verbal communication skills interested in joining a productive team of students, post-baccalaureate and post-doctoral fellows.
