Subject: 17.06.30 Postdoc positions, Structure-based drug design, Uppsala University, Sweden
Up to two postdoctoral researcher positions in computational chemistry and computer-aided drug design are available from the 1st of September 2017 in Jens Carlssons group in the computational biology and bioinformatics programme at the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology, Uppsala University, Sweden. The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology is one of the most international, broad and distinguished biomolecular departments in Europe, comprising six research programs covering subjects such as bioinformatics, microbiology, and biophysics. Jens Carlssons research focuses on development of methods for structure-based drug design and application of these techniques to discover ligands of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), often in close collaboration with experimental groups and the pharmaceutical industry. The Carlsson lab is a cross-disciplinary and international research team that is part of the Science for Life Laboratory (http://www.scilifelab.se). Visit the group web page for more information (www.carlssonlab.org). Duties: We are seeking up to two highly motivated researchers who will work on (1) development of new methods for structure-based drug discovery with molecular docking or (2) modeling of GPCRs with the aim to identify ligands of therapeutic targets. The researchers will be part of an ERC starting grant project that will be initiated at the end of 2017. Requirements: The applicants must hold a PhD degree and should have expertise in structure-based modeling of protein-ligand complexes. Experience in programming and modeling of GPCRs is preferred, but not required. Good English language skills and the ability to work in a team are required. Personal suitability will receive special attention in the selection process.
