Subject: 17.10.06 Postdoctoral Fellow (m/f) with a PhD degree in Theoretical Chemistry MPI CEC, Muelheim, Germany

The Max Planck Institute for Chemical Energy Conversion in Mülheim an der Ruhr has been reestablished in 2012 and the field of research has been aligned with the conversion of energy. Our scientists are engaged in basic processes that are essential within the storage and conversion of energy.

The department Molecular Theory and Spectroscopy is presently looking for up to two candidates for a

Postdoctoral Fellow (m/f)
with a PhD degree in Theoretical Chemistry.

The two postdoc positions are available in the group of Dr. Róbert Izsák in excited state quantum chemistry. The positions are available immediately, preferably no later than January 2018. The positions are initially for 12 months with an option of renewal for two more years and are remunerated according to the labor agreement for public service (TVöD), E13.

Job Description: The postdoctoral researchers will be supervised by Dr. Róbert Izsák and will pursue research on the topic Application of excited state coupled cluster methods on large molecules. The project involves the application of newly developed pair natural orbital based methods in chemically interesting systems. The candidates will have the opportunity to pursue pioneering research in theoretical method development and computational chemistry, both individually and collaboratively, working in the stimulating environment of a highly active and internationally renowned theoretical chemistry department of the Max Planck Society.

Qualifications: PhD degree in computational chemistry or a related discipline. The candidates must have experience in the application of electronic structure theory and computational methods to the study of chemical reaction mechanisms. For at least one of the positions, some experience with method development is also appreciated.

Application: The Max Planck Society explicitly encourages women to apply. Furthermore the Max Planck Society wishes to increase the number of individuals with disabilities in its workforce and therefore encourages applications from such qualified individuals.

Please send electronic versions of your documents and address all enquiries to Dr. Róbert Izsák (contact details shown below). Please state the reference code RI002 in your application. Application documents must include a cover letter, a curriculum vitae with the contact details of two referees and a copy of your degree certificate.

The expected starting date is no later than January 2018.
