Subject: 18.03.03 Open PhD positions in Computational Biophysical and Materials Chemistry (starting Fall 2018) at the University of Texas at El Paso
Applications are invited for PhD studies (deadline Apr 1) focused on theoretical and computational modeling of biomolecular complexes and novel materials nanosystems, operated by chemical, physical and biological principles. The available research projects involve molecular dynamics simulations of protein-nucleic acid complexes and hybrid materials on bio-nano interface. The candidates will learn how to use a variety of theoretical and computational methodologies, including classical molecular dynamics simulations and quantum calculations, free energy calculation methods, new parameterization schemes and enhanced sampling techniques. They will be able to write their own codes in various programming languages, and acquire many other skills. We are looking for creative and motivated individuals with outstanding work ethics, and passion for scientific discovery. While background in chemistry, physics or biology, and preliminary knowledge of theoretical methods used in these fields is welcome, motivation and effort are absolutely required. The research will be conducted in the group of Prof. Lela Vukovic in the Chemistry Department at the University of Texas at El Paso (utminers.utep.edu/lvukovic/). Collaboration with other experimental and theoretical groups is essential in our research. The University of Texas at El Paso is an emerging national research university, with a new chemistry building and a growing campus. El Paso is a large city with many opportunities for cultural, sports and outdoors events. Interested candidates should e-mail (as soon as possible) their CV to: Lvukovic-.-utep.edu The applicants should also submit general GRE scores, and foreign applicants are requires to provide IELTS/TOEFL scores. The cumulative GPA of the applicant should be at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale.NOTE THAT E-MAIL ADDRESSES HAVE BEEN MODIFIED!!!
