Subject: 18.08.27 Post Doc in Computational Biophysics at the University of Cincinnati
The Department of Chemistry and Professor Ruxandra Dima have a Post Doctoral Fellow position available at the University of Cincinnati, starting in January, 2019. Our research is focused on modeling of biological macromolecules using a combination of molecular dynamics, coarse-grained simulations, and bioinformatics. The main focus is on the computational modeling of biological macromolecules dynamics in order to gain insight into the mechanisms of assembly and disassembly of large protein fibers that perform various mechanical functions across biological systems and it is supported by a grant from the National Science Foundation. We are looking for a scientist who has a PhD in Computational Biophysics or a closely related discipline. In addition, we expect a solid chemical or biophysical background, a good grasp of statistics and data analysis techniques. Excellent writing and communication skills are also desired. Experience with programming and scripting languages (C/C++/CUDA, Python) and with the UNIX/Linux operating system will be a significant advantage. Familiarity with the application of classical molecular dynamics with explicit and implicit solvent and related force fields to the study of complex biomolecular systems using various molecular modeling packages Gromacs, NAMD etc.), as well as a good knowledge of statistical mechanics are also welcome for this position. The position is available for a one year appointment, with a possible extension for a second year upon mutual agreement, satisfactory performance and availability of funds. The position is immediately available and applications will be considered until the position is filled. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: PhD in Computational Biophysics or a closely related discipline
APPLICATION PROCESS Qualified and interested candidates must complete our online application at https://jobs.uc.edu (Search requisition #32524). In addition to the online application, candidates should use our additional documents function to send a current CV together with a description of their research experience and interests, including names and contacts of three references and outlining career plans including intended start dates to: Dr. Ruxandra Dima at dimari+/-ucmail.uc.edu. This position will be a professional position paid at an hourly rate. The University of Cincinnati, as a multi-national and culturally diverse university, is committed to providing an inclusive, equitable and diverse place of learning and employment. As part of a complete job application you will be asked to include a Contribution to Diversity and Inclusion statement.
