Arieh Warshel Institute of Computational Biology, headed by Prof. Arieh Warshel (Nobel Laureate in Chemistry 2013), is the first Nobel institute established in the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK-SZ). Built upon the academic tradition of CUHK and the innovative city of Shenzhen, the institute aims to become a world-leading computational biology center in basic research and the nurturing of the life science industry in Shenzhen. Currently affiliating a comprehensive team of 6 principal investigators (Prof. Arieh Warshel, Prof. Jenn-Kang Hwang, Prof. Hsien-Da Huang, Prof. Tzong-Yi Lee, Dr. Guijuan Cheng and Dr. Lizhe Zhu), the expanding institute pursues research in a broad range of directions including structural biology, multi-scale biomolecule simulations, molecular medicine, high-throughput genome sequencing analysis and translational research of gene diagnosis technology. Your job: This post aims to recruit postdocs for the lab of Dr. Lizhe Zhu. The candidates must hold Ph.D. in computational chemistry, computational biology or related fields and are expected to be experienced in one or more of the following areas: 1. Molecular Dynamics simulations (GROMACS, NAMD, AMBER or CHARMM) 2. Development of enhanced sampling techniques (programming in Python, C/C++) 3. Conformational changes of proteins and nucleic acids 4. Molecular docking (protein-ligand, protein-protein, protein-RNA) 5. Computer-aided drug design Experience with MOLARIS-XG will be a plus. You will receive all-round training for career development, including opportunities to work closely with all investigators of the Warshel Institute and the other two Nobel institute in CUHK-SZ (Kobilka Institute of Innovative Drug Discovery & Ciechanover Institute of Precision and Regenerative Medicine). The initial contract has a fixed term of 2 years and is renewable upon mutual agreement. After 2 years, postdocs with excellent performance can be hired as senior researchers of the Warshel Institute with increased salary. The base annual salary consists of two parts: (a) tax-free subsidy of RMB 300,000 from the local government; (b) gross salary of RMB 50,000-15,000 (depending on experience) from the Warshel Institute. Moreover, when eligible, candidates may apply for Talents program of Guangdong province and the Shenzhen city for additional subsidies (plus base salary): 1. Postdoctoral Talents of the Pearl River Plan (gross RMB 300,000/year for the first 2 years, gross accommodation allowance RMB 400,000 after 2 years). Recipient must obtain his/her Ph.D. within 2 years from an internationally recognized university outside Mainland China (Top 200 in Times Ranking). 2. Category C of the Shenzhen Peacock Plan (RMB 480,000/year, tax-free, 5 years). Recipient must be of Chinese-ethnicity, aged less than 40 and satisfy one of the following: (a) Obtained Ph.D. from an internationally recognized university outside Mainland China (Top 150 in Times Ranking or Shanghai Ranking) within the last 5 years; (b) Two-year continuous postdoctoral research experience outside Mainland China with 1 paper (first, co-first or the only corresponding author) on journals ranked in zone 1 or 2 of the Journal Citation Reports within the last 5 years (c) 3 papers (first, co-first or the only corresponding author) published on journals ranked in zone 1 of the Journal Citation Reports within the last 5 years. Your group leader: Dr. Lizhe Zhu earned his Ph.D. in Computational Chemistry from University of Amsterdam (UvA), where he was a Marie-Curie Early Stage Researcher studying the mechanism of allosteric protein receptors via molecular simulations. He then worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) with a focus on the integration of enhanced sampling methods with the framework of Markov State Models. Since August 2018, he has been an Assistant Professor in Arieh Warshel Institute of Computational Biology, School of Science and Engineering (SSE), The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. His current research focuses on RNA-protein interactions, mechanism of RNA/DNA interference, computer-aided drug discovery and the development of automated path searching methods and other enhanced sampling techniques.
