Role Overview We are seeking a top class candidate to join our Computer-Aided Drug Design (CADD) team within Global Chemistry to drive the application of artificial intelligence and advanced machine learning technologies in small molecule drug discovery. The successful candidate will have solid understanding of small molecule drug discovery, computer-aided drug design, and applications of AI and advanced machine learning algorithms to address challenges in chemistry This position can be located either in our UK offices in Slough or in our Belgian offices in Braine-l'Alleud. Main Accountabilities Able to positively challenge, mentor and develop junior members of CADD. Established external presence and credibility as an expert in CADD. Able to independently drive publication/patent strategy. Collaborates closely with Informatics , IT, Chemistry, Structural Biology and Development Science colleagues to apply artificial intelligence and advanced machine learning technologies to drive molecular design and accelerate drug discovery project progression. Participates in local functional management, including hiring, mentoring and retention of staff when required. Represents functional team and influences management for scientific and operational strategy, resource use and project execution. Offers constructive challenges and champions continuous improvement of CADD operation to enable effective drug discovery process. Establishes a high level of innovation with current knowledge of science and technology. Proactively implements scientific and technological advancement to drive drug discovery effectiveness, especially at the intersection of AI/machine learning and molecular design. Demonstrates high level of entrepreneurship and fosters can-do and can-win attitude. Seeks cross-functional solutions to address scientific and operational issues. Suggests, and leads, changes to improve work process effectiveness with high HS&E standards. Essential Requirements Post-graduate degree in Chemistry, Computational Chemistry, Cheminformatics, Molecular Modelling or other related field. PhD is preferred. Demonstrated experience in small molecule drug discovery. Ideally with 5+ years of relevant industrial experience. Demonstrated experience in applying artificial intelligence and advanced machine learning technologies to address challenges in chemistry. Recognized as an expert in this field with a strong track record of scientific publications and patents. Wiliness and ability to travel at least monthly between our research sites in the UK and Belgium to facilitate collaborations and to support projects. Strong communication skills. Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Able to create effective working relationships within a matrix working environment via influencing and networking.
