Subject: 19.03.18 Postdocs/Senior Researchers, Arieh Warshel Institute for Computational Biology, Shenzhen, China
The Arieh Warshel Institute for Computational Biology is headed by Prof. Arieh Warshel (2013 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry) and be part of the School of Life and Health Science, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHKSZ). It is intended to become one of the worlds most advanced computational biology centers, conducting research on cutting-edge biotechnologies (structural biology, molecular medicine, multi-scale biomolecular simulations, high-throughput genome sequencing analysis and translational research of gene diagnosis technology). Dr. Guijuan Cheng is an Assistant Professor of the School of Life and Health and is affiliated with the Arieh Warshel Institute for Computational Biology. The Cheng group mainly focuses on mechanistic studies on enzymatic and organic reactions by using a wide range of computational techniques (QM/MM, QM, and MD methods) and experimental methods (mass spectrometry, electrochemical method, EPR, etc.). We are seeking multiple experienced research fellows (postdocs and senior researchers) who will work on one of the following projects: (1) QM/MM study of enzyme systems (e.g. metalloenzyme, biosynthesis and disease-related enzymatic reactions); (2) QM study of organic reactions (e.g. transition metal-catalyzed reactions and electrochemical reactions). The candidates must hold Ph.D. in computational chemistry, computational biology or related fields and are expected to be experienced in one or more of the following areas: 1. Hybrid QM/MM (quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics) calculations 2. Molecular dynamics simulations (CHARMM, AMBER, GROMACS or NAMD) 3. QM (quantum mechanics) calculations 4. Force-field development for transition metals 5. Theoretical studies on enzymatic and/or organic reactions 6. Mass spectrometry, electron paramagnetic resonance, or electrochemical analysis Experience in using ChemShell or MOLARIS-XG will be a plus. Benefits: 1. The base annual salary is RMB 360,000-460,000, consisting of two parts: (a)tax free subsidy of RMB 300,000 per year from the local government; (b) gross salary of RMB 60,000-160,000 (depending of experience) from the institute. Moreover, when eligible, candidates may apply for Talents program of Guangdong province and the Shenzhen city for additional subsidies (plus base salary): a. Postdoctoral Talents of the Pearl River Plan (gross RMB 300,000/year for the first 2 years, gross accommodation allowance RMB 400,000 after 2 years). Recipient must obtain his/her Ph.D. within 2 years from an internationally recognized university outside Mainland China (Top 200 in Times Ranking). b. Category C of the Shenzhen Peacock Plan (RMB 480,000/year, tax-free, 5 years). Recipient must be of Chinese-ethnicity, aged less than 40 and satisfy one of the following: (i) Obtained Ph.D. from an internationally recognized university outside Mainland China (Top 150 in Times Ranking or Shanghai Ranking) within the last 5 years; (ii) Two-year continuous postdoctoral research experience outside Mainland China with 1 paper (first, co-first or the only corresponding author) on journals ranked in zone 1 or 2 of the Journal Citation Reports within the last 5 years (iii) 3 papers (first, co-first or the only corresponding author) published on journals ranked in zone 1 of the Journal Citation Reports within the last 5 years. 2. The initial contract has a fixed term of 2 years and is renewable upon mutual agreement. After 2 years, postdocs with excellent performance can be hired as senior researchers of the Warshel Institute with increased salary. 3. Employee benefits will be provided according to the relevant labor laws of Mainland China as well as CUHK-Shenzhen regulations.
Applicants should send the following materials via email to chengguijuan~!~cuhk.edu.cn 1. A cover letter explaining your research background and reasons for joining. 2. CV and publication list, with the most important 3 to 5 publications highlighted. 3. Contact information for at least two references.NOTE THAT E-MAIL ADDRESSES HAVE BEEN MODIFIED!!!
