THE POSITION
Join a world class team of drug discovery experts and contribute to the discovery of breakthrough therapies to be first4patients.
We are currently looking for an experienced Computational Chemist to join us at our research site in Biberach, Germany. In this role you have the chance to strongly impact drug discovery projects from the early stage into the lead optimization phase across different therapeutic areas.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • As a member of interdisciplinary project teams, you support research projects with state-of-the-art computational chemistry methods and contribute to the design and optimization of lead compounds.
  • By taking over the role of drug discovery team lead, you are responsible for early project phases, including hit finding and hit follow-up.
  • In your new role you enhance our method portfolio with newly emerging Computational Chemistry methods from areas such as artificial intelligence, cheminformatics or structure-based design.
  • Furthermore, you interact closely with colleagues from Medicinal Chemistry, Structural Research, Screening and Profiling, Screening Logistics, Pharmacology and Computational Biology & Digital Sciences.
  • Coaching post-docs, initiating, and supervising academic collaborations and publishing in peer-reviewed journals will round off your new tasks.

Requirements

  • PhD or Masters degree in computer science, chemistry, physics, mathematics or related discipline
  • Several years of experience in industrial drug discovery
  • Deep understanding of molecular design principles as well as familiarity with pharmacological and medicinal chemistry concepts
  • Excellent knowledge and practical experience with computational chemistry methods (MD simulations, QM, Ligand-based approaches, cheminformatics) and commercial software packages (CCG, Schrödinger)
  • Advanced programming skills in Python and experience with open source toolkits (e.g. RDKit)
  • Expertise in working with Unix/Linux and in HPC environments
