The Butler University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences seeks a collegial, dynamic
faculty member to provide innovative teaching and conduct productive research in a tenure-track
Assistant Professor position in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. A vibrant university
located in a growing metropolitan area, Butler is committed to providing a welcoming, diverse,
and inclusive environment for faculty, staff, and students and seeks applicants who will engage
in and contribute to those values.

Qualifications:

A doctoral degree, specializing in medicinal chemistry, computational chemistry with an
emphasis on biologically active compounds, or a related field.
Active engagement in research broadly related to medicinal chemistry: areas of current
emphasis include cheminformatics, computational chemistry, drug discovery, and synthetic
chemistry incorporating big data.
Candidates in the early stages of postdoctoral research are encouraged to apply, even if their
primary findings are not yet published.
Ideally, candidates would have teaching experience and a desire to use innovative teaching
methods to educate pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists.

Job Description:

The main teaching responsibilities of the hired applicant will be medicinal chemistry lectures,
focusing on structure activity relationships of drug classes, and group learning sessions in the
Doctor of Pharmacy program, in a four course series titled Principles of Drug Action, which
integrates medicinal chemistry and pharmacology. The hired applicant will also teach courses
for M.S. programs in Pharmaceutical Sciences and/or Data Analytics.
The hired applicant will be expected to provide innovative and varied learning experiences. The
Butler Center for Academic Technology (CAT) (https://www.butler.edu/academic-technology) supports
learning by working with faculty to promote thoughtful and effective use of academic technology and
instructional approaches.
The hired applicant will engage students in the Doctor of Pharmacy, M.S.in Pharmaceutical
Sciences, and M.S. in Data Analytics degree programs in research experiences.
The hired applicant is expected to seek extramural research funding and conduct innovative
research in a collaborative fashion that integrates the chemical and life sciences. We are
particularly interested in candidates who bridge chemical and biological information using
large, diverse datasets.
The salary is fully supported by the university on a year-round (12-month) basis.
Starting date is flexible.

There are unique opportunities for interactions and collaborations between basic scientists and
clinical pharmacists at Butler University. In a 5,000 square foot state-of-the-art collaborative
laboratory, current faculty engage in NIH and NSF-funded research involving bioinformatics,
precision medicine, drug discovery, and data analytics. Computational researchers also have ample
access to multiple supercomputers on campus. Furthermore, there are opportunities to develop
collaborations in Indianapolis with institutes and companies within the 16Tech innovation district
(https://www.16tech.com/), an initiative that brings together technology and biosciences in areas that
link big data to molecular mechanisms.

The College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences offers a diverse set of programs leading to the Doctor
of Pharmacy, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Master of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Master of Science
in Physician Assistant Studies, Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences, and Bachelor of Science in
Healthcare and Business degrees. Butler University offers personalized liberal and professional
education to students in its six colleges (Business, Liberal Arts and Sciences, Communication, Pharmacy
and Health Sciences, Education, and the Arts). Ranked #1 as best undergraduate teaching and most innovative
