Subject: 23.03.31 Drug Discovery Biology and Medicinal Chemistry Opportunities at D. E. Shaw Research
D. E. Shaw Research is seeking pre-clinical translational scientists, and
outstanding medicinal chemists with experience in drug discovery to join
our New York-based team. These are high-visibility, high-impact roles
that afford the opportunity to help shape our drug discovery programs.

A biologist's responsibilities would include working collaboratively with
our team of computational scientists and consultants on target
evaluation, selection, and translational strategy; overseeing
experimental work at our CRO partners from the design and implementation
of functional cell assays to in vivo testing; and providing strategic
advice regarding new drug discovery opportunities across therapeutic
areas. Relevant areas of experience include leadership of pre-clinical
drug discovery programs, design of in vitro assays as well as in vivo
disease models, and formulation of translational plans.

A medicinal chemist should ideally have considerable experience in
structure-based drug discovery projects for multiple target classes.
Relevant areas of knowledge include modern synthetic methods and
analytical techniques, biochemical/biological assays, basic pharmacology
and pharmaceutics, and intellectual property; experience with
computational chemistry methods is not required but would be a plus.

Specific knowledge of any of these areas is less critical than strong
research and communication skills, and a record of impact in drug
discovery, such as having advanced multiple compounds to clinical trials.

Successful hires for these positions will directly contribute to projects
within our expanding portfolio of drug discovery programs, which we
pursue both independently and in collaboration with leaders in academia
and industry.

We are looking to add innovative contributors who share our commitment to
fostering a stimulating, positive, and collaborative work environment.

D. E. Shaw Research (DESRES) is a New York-based drug discovery and
computational biochemistry research company developing and using advanced
computational technologies to understand the behavior of biologically and
pharmaceutically significant molecules at an atomic level of detail, and
to design precisely targeted, highly selective drugs for the treatment of
various diseases. Among our core technologies is a proprietary
special-purpose supercomputer called ANTON? which we designed and
constructed to perform molecular dynamics simulations more than 100 times
faster than the world's fastest general-purpose supercomputers. DESRES
develops and refines advanced biomolecular modeling methods, software,
and machine learning techniques on ANTON?, as well as on general-purpose
supercomputers, in order to pursue both internal and collaborative drug
discovery programs.

D. E. Shaw Research is an equal opportunity employer, dedicated to the
goal of building a diverse workforce. We embrace diversity along all
dimensions, and respect and value the unique qualities, perspectives, and
identities of every person in our group. We welcome inquiries from all
exceptionally well-qualified applicants, regardless of race, color,
nationality, national or ethnic origin, religion or religious belief,
caste, gender identity, pregnancy, caregiver status, age, military
service eligibility, veteran status, sexual orientation, marital or civil
partner status, disability, or status in any other category protected in
this regard by law in any jurisdiction in which we operate.

The expected annual base salary for these positions is $350,000 -- $500,000.
Our compensation package also includes variable compensation in the form
of sign-on and year-end bonuses, as well as generous benefits and
relocation assistance. The applicable annual base salary paid to a
successful applicant will be determined based on multiple factors
including the nature and extent of prior experience and educational
background. We follow a hybrid work schedule, in which employees work from
the office on Tuesday through Thursday, and have the option of working from
home on Monday and Friday.
