scene from "the Technology of Universities" Copyright (C) Iain D. Sinclair 1991 A series of input files that recreates a surreal kitchen in the middle of nowhere, in the dead of night. This took about a month to hack up from scratch. It appears on the cover of PLEXUS magazine. Nothing impressive, but (for me) a useful exercise in computer illustration. Possible problems: all the image files are .mtv, and may have to be converted if you've compiled RayShade with URT. Some objects very probably won't work in CSG operations. There are 'visual errors' in tou.ray (eg. the cigarette is hovering above the ashtray). The input files are in the format of the July '91 RayShade 4.0 release; input files for RayShade 4.0 beta are provided in the beta directory. All the input files may be used freely; it'd be nice if their origin was acknowledged, though. (Let me know if you use the input files, or you like the scene, or you detest it.) Acknowledgements to: - Craig Kolb. - Stephen Gowing, who provided technical assistance. - Eric Haines, for the SPD database 'clip art'. - Colin Panisset, who took the photos. - Adam Mulukin, for digitizing Glen. - Scott Hopwood, for useful criticism, and creating Swish (the utilised animation language). - Jeremy Fitzhardinge, for the Makefile and converting to RS 4.0. - many others, who provided useful examples, inspiration, and the fractal image textures. - Nick Tesla & Mike Faraday, who made it all possible.
