THE CHEMIST IN CYBERSPACE - AVOIDING THE PITFALLS OF THE DIGITAL WORLD

Abstract:
THE CHEMIST IN CYBERSPACE - AVOIDING THE PITFALLS OF THE DIGITAL WORLD. J. Keith Harmon, ECLIPS, 1224 Kinnear Rd, Columbus, OH 43212.

Without a doubt, the Internet is a tool that has revolutionized the way that people communicate, disseminate, and locate information. We can send and receive messages, documents, and images to and from virtually anyone in the world. In essence, the Internet magnifies what we can do with information. Yet it does more than magnify the positive aspects of manipulating information, it also magnifies the problems. This presentation will identify some of the problems and will suggest ways to avoid the pitfalls that they create, including: Copyright, Freedom of Expression, Public Access to Electronic Records, Defamation, Crime and Security in Cyberspace, Jurisdiction of the Internet, and Privacy and Anonymity
