1937 Wells promoted the concept of a world brain based on a permanent world encycloaedia.
1945 Bush (technical advisor to Roosewelt) addresses the problem in the growth of knowledge, and proposed a technological solution based on his concept of memex , a multimedia personal computer.
1967 Time-shared conversational computing (Gruenberger, Ott) allowed computers to be used to begin to address these early visions of the Web in providing a national information system (Rubinoff).
