I counted Linux, FreeBSD and friends(NetBSD/OpenBSD...) and what else?

If you mean batch scheduling system then there are Torque, SGE and,
perhaps, DIET... It's not an overwhelming number of choices here either.

I think this requirement pretty much eliminates plan9, though I'm not
an expert.

Seriously though go with Linux and either SGE or Torque, it's not like
there are so many free options out there.
