QSAR - Current Estimates of Drug Development from Parthiban Srinivasan on 2002-06-27 (QSAR and MS List)

Dear Friends:
I read the following info on current estimates of drug development, but am not sure the figures mentioned are updated/correct one.

Current Estimates of Drug Development

ü * Of 12,000 compounds made and tested, 1 becomes a marketed drug.
ü * Average cost per marketed drug are $150-180 million dollars.
ü * Average development time per drug is 8-10 years

Could you please send me your views on the current estimate (and with some comments like the cost including/excluding
on multitude dead-ends in a given project) on these three points. Thanks in advance.
