I find excellent numerical software at:
http://www.netlib.org
and
http://gams.nist.gov

The GAMS "Guide to Available Mathematical Software" can
be accessed by telnetting to gams.nist.gov
and following the instructions.

you may find robust minimization algorithms, including simplex (Minuit)
