CCL: another blog - This on the anomalous configuration in Cr

Here are two activities that I always have students do to disabuse them of the idea that there is something "special" or "anomalous" about Cr and Cu.

1.  Find the ground state configurations for all elements in the first three transition series, and determine how many do not follow the Aufbau Principle or whatever "rules" you have previously learned.

2.  Comment as completely as you can on the ground state configuration of Ni, Pd and Pt.

Cheers,

Flick

Dear Colleagues,
Now a blog on the anomalous configuration in chromium and how to explain it or perhaps how not to explain it.
