521. CLUST: Simulation of the Intensity Diffracted by a
Spherical Cluster
by J. C. Caillat, L. S. Bartell and L. Harsanyi, Department of Chemistry, The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48109 A field of growing importance is research on clusters of molecules generated in nozzle flow or by other procedures. Many of the clusters generated have been solid, crystalline or quasicrystalline; some have been liquid. In order to distinguish between alternative possibilities, it has been found useful to compare observed diffraction patterns with diffraction patterns computed from nearly spherical fragments of crystals. Because the latter have been tedious to generate, we have devised a procedure to do this which takes advantage of the efficient algorithm designed by D. E. Williams for his program PCK6 (QCPE 373).
