Contributing Software to QCPE
All of the software which QCPE announces and distributes
has been contributed. The few exceptions to this fact are
those systems which QCPE distributes under special
arrangement with the author. From QCPE's beginnings it
has worked primarily with source code and with software
which had been contributed by some researcher.
QCPE maintains a continuing interest in new software.
We are interested in software which may even appear to
be similar to software which we already hold. There are
many reasons for this interest but primarily we have
discovered that different packages will have different
and often unique functionalities which will be useful.
Before QCPE announces the availability of any new software
we carry out a standard test process which is intended to
guarantee that the package will yield the same results on
one of our computers that the author obtained on his
computer. Consequently to add a new program to our holdings
we need the following items:
1. A source copy of the program
2. An executable copy of the program
3. Sample input and the output it produced
on the contributor's computer
4. Documentation which is sufficiently detailed
for a competent person to use the program.
Given these items we can test and announce a new program
fairly quichly. We encourage people to bring their
software efforts to everyone's attention by announcement
in our quarterly QCPE Bulletin.
