266. High Ionizing Voltage, Low Resolution Mass Spectrometric Analysis of Gas Oil Aromatic Fractions

by C. J. Robinson, American Oil Company, Whiting, Indiana 46394 and Glenn L. Cook, Laramie Petroleum Research Center, Laramie, Wyoming 82070

This program covers the determination by high ionizing voltage, low resolution mass spectrometry of 18 aromatic hydrocarbon types and 3 aromatic thiopheno types in aromatic petroleum fractions boiling within the range of 400°-1000°F (corrected to atmospheric pressure). Samples must be nonolefinic, must contain not more than 1 percent by weight of total sulfur, and must contain not more than 5 percent nonaromatic hydrocarbons. Composition data are in volume per cent.
